We arrived at 8:00 AM because we had to drop Tyler off for football camp at 7:45 just a few miles away. Before we started, we stopped into the shop and bought snacks to fuel us for our adventure. They make the most delicious baked goods there. YUM!
That is a chocolate croissant and it was full of chocolatey goodness! |
After we ate, we had to take some silly pictures:
Collin took these pictures, and I guess he was just focusing on getting our faces in the pictures!!!
We had to drive across the farm to get to the blueberry fields and I didn't want to put Kate back in her seat (to avoid crying) so I let Collin sit in the front seat and hold her super tight. We never drove on a road, just on grass and dirt and there were no cars around at all. He thought this was the best thing ever and Kate was happy too! I didn't take a picture, bummer.
Kate was so good while we picked berries.
Kate did a lot of sampling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Notice Reagan's shirt. I looked back at pictures from the last time we went blueberry picking (2009 - three years ago!!!!!!!) and she was wearing the same shirt.
We had a great time and ate a lot of berries! When we got home, we read Blueberries for Sal while we ate more berries. Collin never eats blueberries, but he certainly ate a lot today!!!
Later in the day, I made a blueberry pie using this recipe:
Half Raw Half Cooked Blueberry Pie
Ingredients:
4 cups blueberries
2/3 cup sugar3 Tbsp cornstarch
1/2 cup water
pinch of salt
one baked 9 inch pie shell
Wash/drain blueberries. Mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a medium saucepan. Add water and mix. Heat while stirring and add 2 cups of the blueberries. Cook over medium-high heat until thick and transparent (this only takes a few minutes). The mixture gets very glossy and the blueberries will pop. Cool slightly. Pour a small amount into the bottom of the baked pie shell. Add remaining 2 cups of blueberries to the cooked mixture in the pan. Pour mixture into pie shell and garnish with a few fresh berries on top. Cool completely and serve with whipped cream or ice cream!
A wonderful day!

What a fun outing!! I want to go blueberry picking so bad.. but there isn't a farm close to us.. maybe a fun day trip next year (getting late in the season here).
It looks like a blast! I think our berry picking farm is also called Sweet Berry Farms.
Your recipe sounds fantastic!
My sisters took the kids blueberry picking on Friday, and they picked over 12lbs! And they were so amazing, we ate them all!!!
These pictures are all so sweet. You got some really good ones. It looks like such a fun time. I can't believe how much bigger Collin and Reagan are! Kate looks like she really did have a good time. I'm glad she was so good for you.
I love the book Blueberries for Sal. Your pie looks really good and so do the baked goods the kids got!
