Then he used black construction paper to attach a roof to the flap of the bag. He also made construction paper windows, shutters, and a door. Using crayons, googly eyes, and stickers, he added a few spooky decorations.
He was very happy with the final product. R started making a haunted house, but she has lost interest in it so I'm not sure if she will actually finish hers. I think I have to entice her with some Halloween princess stickers!
There are two haunted house books that we enjoy reading this time of year.
Our favorite is Ten Timid Ghosts by Jennifer O'Connell. This is one of our favorite Halloween books; it really is a fun read. Ten timid ghosts live in a haunted house, but a witch moves in and wants them out. She plays tricks to scare them away, but in the end, the ghosts play their own trick. We love the rhymes and the countdown is a nice bonus.
The House that Drac Built by Judy Sierra is a fun Halloween version of The House that Jack Built. I will warn you that some of the illustrations are a bit gory, but my monster-loving, fan of all things creepy six year old thinks they are fantastic.
