A lone star sandwich!
Blue corn chips (this plate of chips became nachos!). According to The United States Cookbook by Joan D'Amico and Karen Eich Drummond, Texas grows more blue corn than any other state.
We also learned that chili is the state food of Texas, and we will be happy to enjoy some chili this weekend!

If you are going for authentic Texas Chili then you may want to withhold the beans. I'm from RI and since I'm not very carnivorous love the beans the best in chili...but according to my boyfriend from Dallas, they don't put beans in their chili. It is apparently a "yankee" thing to do! Anyways, have fun studying Texas :)
Hope - That's a bummer because I LOVE beans in my chili.
have fun with your Chili! my dad makes the offical chili of texas (chili con carne) and his has beans (maybe its a austin thing to add beans) or dallas thing not to who knows!
I do know he uses stew meat though not ground meat!
he loved it when we were stationed in Texas loves the food!
From what I've seen there is not set chili recipe. I've had lots of different variations.
Very clever!!!

Your so creative!
Those all look like such tasty treats! I love how you incorporate all of the senses in your lessons, and Texas has some amazing food!
I say, add the beans and just tell the kiddos that chili can be made in many ways. My southern gentleman is just set in his ways and likes to tease me. I found some cool links on the subject! haha
