Chocolate Play Dough

February is national chocolate month, so I made chocolate play dough for C and R this week.  It smells so good.  This is the recipe I used:
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 TBSP cream of tartar
  • 1 1/2 TBSP cooking oil
  • 1 cup boiling water
Mix all of the ingredients really well in a saucepan and then heat over low heat until it forms a ball.  Once it is cool enough to handle, knead it with your hands.  Store the play dough in an airtight container.

I gave C and R rolling pins and heart shaped cookie cutters to play with the dough.

I have seen recipes for edible chocolate play dough, but I'm not really sure if it is something I want to try.  Eating play dough?  Maybe someday.  For now, we will just enjoy the aroma of this dough!

Love that idea!
It will have to emphasize that it is NOT edible!

We've made play dough cookies. The consistency of the dough is like play dough, but you cook it. That's really fun.

National chocolate month!?! So much better than national soup month :) I think we'll have to make some tootsie rolls.

What a neat idea! I am thinking though that Selena would eat it.

I think I might have the stuff to make this. Cute!

I am kind of thinking the same as Debbie - that Anna would be too preoccupied with chocolate thoughts to enjoy the dough :) I saw a great idea on Counting Coconut blog to use a mold from chocolate candies to make pretend candies with chocolate dough.

I bet that did smell good, morning sickness and all. There would be no stopping my Juiciness from taking a taste test, however!

I bet this smells so good! Another thing I'd planned to have made already for Jack. Hopefully this weekend.

R is getting so big girl Christy! She is so pretty!
