Did you know that you can buy plain sheets of Shrinky Dinks plastic to make your own designs? This is our second year using the plain sheets to make ornaments for our Christmas tree. They are super easy to make and definitely one of a kind!
First, I cut an 8"x10" sheet of Shrinky Dinks plastic in half and gave one half to C and the other half to R. They used colored pencils to create whatever they wanted on the rough side of the plastic. Here are the designs they drew before we put them in the oven:
Next, I punched a hole at the top of each sheet of plastic. This is important because without the hole, they can't be hung on the tree!
Then, I placed the sheets on a cookie sheet covered with tinfoil and put the sheet in a preheated 325 degrees oven for 1-5 minutes (ours took 4 minutes but the time depends on the size of the Shrinky Dinks creation and the thickness of your cookie sheet), watching them the whole time.
The end result is two more very cool homemade ornaments for our Christmas tree!

Little J actually asked for a vacuum cleaner for Christmas last year...even told his teacher about it. She pulled me aside barely able to keep from laughing to ask me if I knew what was on his list. I said, "A Dyson vacuum cleaner?" and then we both giggled (not in front of him of course). He didn't get one, but was still very happy with Santa.
Somehow I missed out on Shrinky Dinks as a kid, and I have yet to try it with my own kids, but I like the idea of making your own, so maybe we'll get some of those plain sheets!

I loved the Shrinky Dinks. That is too cute the Christmas vacuum. That sounds like something Selena would think of since she thinks it is fun to pull needles off the tree then yell Grandma get the vacuum.
I can definitely see the vacuum cleaner. Quite often Anna first scribbles something and then decides what it will be. I have to try Shrinky Dinks one of these days. I've never heard of them before reading blogs.

If I did Shrinky Dinks as a child, I can't remember them. I need to try these sometime! The blank ones are a fun idea.
