Ladybugs

Kate found a ladybug while she was climbing the rocks at the playground one day.
She sat and watched, and played with, that ladybug for the longest time.

I figured she might like to learn a little about the life cycle of ladybugs, so I ordered ladybug larvae from Insect Lore.  When the Ladybug Land arrived, we sprinkled in the food and the larvae and watched them grow, enter the pupal stage, and emerge as adult ladybugs.

Kate did a great job creating the ladybug life cycle.

Ladybug waffles were a great treat.

We read a few books starring ladybug friends.

After a few days of observing the ladybugs, we released them in our yard.

Collin was so very sweet placing the ladybugs on Kate.

As much as Kate enjoyed observing the ladybugs, her favorite part was releasing them because she really liked interacting with them before they left to live their lives in the great outdoors.

What a great post! This brings back sweet memories! Luke wanted a pet...so he went and found a lady bug...it was a dead ladybug...but he loved it! I think the best part was it never flew away! He fed it (well, it's hard to feed a dead bug...but he attempted) :)
