St. Patrick's Day

Kate made a rainbow with a puffy cloud for St. Patrick's Day.

I drew shamrocks on a few coffee filters, and put them on a tray with droppers in cups of blue and yellow liquid watercolors.  Kate loves using droppers, and this was a great opportunity to work on color mixing; blue + yellow = green.

Don't they look pretty in the window?

Edible rainbow necklaces were also great for fine motor skills practice!

I gave all of the kids a little extra Irish love.

And, of course, even though we never got around to making a leprechaun trap this year, one of those mischievous little creatures still stopped by to turn our toilet water green, knock over some chairs, write on our bathroom mirror, and leave behind a shamrock trail to the annual gift of Lucky Charms.

I did my best to balance out that sugar with the very best rainbow treats.

Seven Days of Luck - St. Patrick's Day

We didn't catch any leprechauns this year.

Collin's trap:

Reagan's trap:

But we did wake up to find green toilet water, a trail of shamrock stickers, and the annual treat of Lucky Charms - all from the leprechauns.

I made shamrock pretzel treats.
Aren't they cute.  What would I do without Pinterest?  I love finding little things like this there.

I also let the kids know how lucky I am to be there mom.

Seven Days of Luck - Days Five and Six

On the fifth day of our seven days of luck, the girls made shamrock shirts.

I cut shamrock shapes out of freezer paper, and ironed them on (shiny side down) to white shirts.  For Kate's shirt, I used a pencil eraser dipped in green fabric paint to outline the shamrock and then make dots around the shamrock.

Kate wanted to help a little; she made a few dots on her shirt.

Reagan outlined her shamrock, but chose a different design.

We let the paint dry and then peeled off the freezer paper.

Later in the day, we had "pots of gold"!

On the sixth day (today), I made shamrock bread by rolling biscuit dough into long ropes and then forming seven of those ropes into the shamrock.  I brushed on egg and then sprinkled on about 1/2 tsp of garlic salt and a little Italian seasoning.  I then baked it until golden brown.

Seven Days of Luck - Days One through Four

We all enjoyed the Fourteen Days of Love so much, that I decided to do seven days of luck for St. Patrick's Day.  I'm challenging myself by not including any junky snacks until the actual holiday. Even that day, the snack I have planned is very simple and not too bad.

Day One:

I cute the kiwi into leaves and stems so the kids could turn them into shamrocks.

Day Two:

Leprechaun Breakfast

Day Three:
I crafted this simple leprechaun mask for some fun pictures!

I also left out some materials for Collin and Reagan to make leprechaun traps.

They didn't even pause to take off their coats when they saw the materials, instead they went right to work.
They are still making adjustments to their traps, so I will post them another day.

Day Four:

A fruit rainbow was the perfect after school snack.  This rainbow has yet to lead the kids to any gold, but I hope they don't give up looking!

St. Patrick's Day

This is what we found on St. Patrick's Day:

Chairs tipped over!  Kate was funny, she just pointed and said, "MESS!".
Leprechaun footprints leading to tasty cookies made with natural food coloring (wise leprechaun!)!

There was green water in the toilet too, but I won't post pictures of that!

We didn't catch a leprechaun this year, but we'll keep trying!

Irish Step - St. Patrick's Day

This is Reagan's second year of Irish Step.  The girls wore their best St. Patrick's Day attire to the class for a special celebration yesterday.

St. Patrick's Day Part Two

Well, we didn't catch any leprechauns, but they did engage in a bit of mischief.

We found shamrocks drawn on the bathroom mirror,

green footprints on the faucet,

the couch cushions were turned sideways,

C and R both woke up to find a shamrock sock on one foot,

and, of course, the toilet water was green!!!!!!!!

We also found a box of Lucky Charms cereal.  I would never buy that!  I let the kids have a bowl of cereal and when I added milk, it turned green!!!  Those pesky leprechauns.

At least they didn't mess with our corned beef and cabbage!
