To Catch a Leprechaun

You must have shiny things, shamrocks, and rainbows to catch a leprechaun!  We have completed two traps so far.  This is C's trap:
He designed it himself.  I only helped him fold the cardboard for his rainbow stairs. There is a slide to lure the leprechauns inside the trap.  Who can resist a slide?

R and I made this one together.  We covered a box with shiny aluminum foil and then put shiny green shamrock stickers all over the box.  I folded the cardboard to create stairs, and she colored them.  We put a shiny shamrock slide inside the trap.

We are thinking of making one more leprechaun trap together as a family because we have a great box that might guarantee success!  Now, how should we spend that pot of gold?

(C and R were featured on Natasha's News, the blog written by Natasha Wing, author of The Night Before St. Patrick's DayClick here to see them over there!)

Leprechaun Traps

Last year, after we read The Night Before St. Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing, we were inspired to make leprechaun traps with the hopes of catching a leprechaun (and a pot of gold) on St. Patrick's Day.

Here are some pictures of the traps we made:

The leprechauns came last year.  They made our toilet water green, left green shamrock marks on our hands, left little green footprints on our plates, and even dropped a few pieces of gold, but we didn't catch them.  This year, we are working to make even better leprechaun traps.  Stay tuned, they will be ready soon.

Leprechaun traps

In my last post I mentioned that we had been reading The Night Before St. Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing. It is definitely our favorite St. Patrick's Day book, and after reading it both C and R decided that we had to make leprechaun traps. So here they are:

The leprechauns will be intrigued when they see the gold, shiny box, the shamrocks, and the beautiful rainbow. Of course they will climb up the shamrocks and dive in; C and R will then outwit the leprechauns and find the pot of gold.

This is a leprechaun slide. There is a sparkly ladder on the other side for the leprechauns to climb. They will have to try the slide (see below) and again will be trapped!

C and R are very excited about their traps and were even more excited when Natasha Wing herself featured them on her blog. Check it out at http://natashawing.blogspot.com/2009/03/to-catch-leprechaun.html
