Welcome Home!

C was very happy to see his Flat Stanley return home safe and sound.  Stanley returned with some great souvenirs from his travels.  He had a postcard with a caribou on the front from Alaska, a map of New York, Australian play money, Australian flags, and a little koala bear holding a boomerang.  Stanley had some great adventures, but C is very happy that he is home now!

Heading Down Under

C's Flat Stanley had a great time visiting Joseph in New York. He was lucky enough to be there to celebrate Joseph's 7th birthday. Happy Birthday Joseph, and thank you for being a very gracious host.
C's Flat Stanley is now on his way to Australia!!!!!!!! How exciting! I wish I could go with him.

Flat Stanley in NY

C's Flat Stanley is currently visiting a family in NY, and it looks like he is having a great time. The family he is visiting does not have a blog, so I am posting his adventures here.

I was told that Stanley helped Joseph build this robot, and that he is really enjoying riding around the house on the robot's arm.

He went to see a Lego artist create this amazing structure. Very cool.

Stanley helped make triple berry muffins. Yum!

Flat Stanley in Alaska

The Flat Stanleys visit Battleship Cove

We are currently hosting three Flat Stanley siblings from the Winston family in Texas. C and R thought the siblings might enjoy touring the world's largest collection of historic naval ships at Battleship Cove in Fall River, Massachusetts.
They toured the USS Massachusetts first. We learned that this ship was involved in 35 WWII battles and never lost a man in combat.



No one thought this would be a nice place to sleep. R looks pretty comfortable though.

The Wilson Flat Stanley siblings also enjoyed touring the USS JosephP. Kennedy, Jr. This destroyer earned two battle stars in the Korean War and was the only American vessel to board a Soviet-chartered ship during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

While touring the battleships, we saw men working at the very top of the nearby Braga Bridge. The Flat Stanley siblings felt a bit ill for a moment when they saw that.

Flat Stanleys from Texas

We were very excited to find three Flat Stanley siblings from Texas in the mail when we returned from swimming lessons today. They even brought a travel journal. C and R cannot wait to show them around MA.

Flat Stanley

C is participating in a Flat Stanley project hosted by Gabby at The Work of Childhood. I have wanted to do something like this for a while because it is a great way to learn about geography, and it is FUN!

If you are not familiar with the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown, it is about a boy named Stanley Lambchop who was flattened by a bulletin board one night while he slept. Because Stanley is flat, he is able to travel via brown paper envelope. Stanley has many travel adventures in follow up books and C is a big fan of his adventures.


The Flat Stanley Project is popular with school teachers interested in providing their students with writing opportunities and geography lessons. You can read more about the origin of the Flat Stanley project by clicking here.

Each participant in the project that C is participating in creates a Flat Stanley and sends him to a host location. Stanley's visit will be documented and shared via email or blog, and Stanley will stay in each place for approximately one week before he is given a new travel destination.

I printed the Flat Stanley template and gave it to C for decorating. He knew immediately that he wanted Stanley to be a pirate, so we gave him a pirate hat and a parrot. I laminated him to keep him safe during his travels. He is currently on his way to Alaska to meet a girl named Lauryn and her family. We will be mapping Stanley's travels and reading a little about each state or country he visits.

C enjoyed spending some time with him while he was here. Actually, C was not happy about sending Stanley away but I think he will feel better once our visiting Stanley arrives.
