Weekend Recap

On Friday night, Tom took the boys to see The Avengers - they LOVED the movie.  R and I had a movie night at home; we watched Never Say Never.

She enjoyed the movie, but I liked it more than she did!  I have to laugh at myself, but I have a slight case of Bieber fever.  I am just impressed with how hard he worked to become a star and how talented he is - his story is very different from that of most teen pop stars.  Plus, I think his music is kind of catchy.

On Saturday, we all celebrated Cinco de Mayo with tortilla soup, quesadillas, nachos, and Mexican limeade.

I printed up some Cinco de Mayo coloring pages at the request of C and R, but they didn't color any of them.  Coloring sheets aren't very exciting for them anymore.

Saturday was also Kentucky Derby day.  I made Kentucky Derby pie (pretty much just pecan pie with chocolate chips in it):

We each chose a horse to cheer for; T's horse came in second.

The most exciting part of the weekend was C's piano recital on Sunday.  He played Kites in the Sky and Row, Row, Row Your Boat.  This was his first recital and he did so well.  We are very proud of him.  For some reason, Blogger will not accept my video, but if you haven't seen it yet, I can email it to you.

K is almost eight months old and this is our first family photo since she was born.

Why don't we have more photos of all of us together?

Dad's arm looks a little weird sticking out over there; that is because we also had C's friend O with us.  C invited her to watch the recital.

My father took pictures of C playing during the recital.  When I get those, I will update this post with pictures.

Thirty-four Weeks

K tried Cheerios for the first time.  She has eaten a few, but most of them end up on the floor which means that Kelly's new favorite spot in the house is under the high chair waiting for treats from K.  I also introduced K to yogurt, but so far she does not like it.  T, C, and R loved yogurt when they were babies, so this surprised me, but she is totally tight-lipped when I try to feed it to her; I'll try again, maybe a different flavor.

K screams for my keys.  I have to keep them out of sight because once she sees them, she wants them and she is very vocal about it.  AND, if I do give in, it is almost impossible to get them back from her without a full temper tantrum.  Most of the time, I refuse to give them to her, but if she is really fussy and we are grocery shopping, I might give them to her to keep her calm.  I was talking to a friend the other day about keys and remote controls and how babies love them and have zero interest in the toy versions, why is that?

Random thought - I love that K's hands always smell like bananas.

Here is a video I took of K last week; she loves to talk!

Chango Bars, Circus Lions, Art, and Obama

A small sampling of April from C:
These are Chango bars that I made for C to bring in to school.  His class read the book, Jalapeno Bagels by Natasha Wing, and one of the recipes the main character makes is Chango Bars.  They are yummy; maybe someday we will make jalapeno bagels too.

C's work based on the book Jalapeno Bagels by Natasha Wing

This lion in a circus car was made by drawing (carving) a lion on styrofoam with a pencil and then using the foam as a stamp.
This lion was made with clay.

C's circus tent was drawn with markers

C drew all of the lines and numbered the spaces, then he gave it to me as an assignment.  I had fun coloring while he was in school, and he was happy that I completed the project quickly :0)
C's book report, I love his drawing of Barack Obama - he looks like a Muppet.

Thirty-three Weeks

K's eyes are so pretty.  They are deep blue like R's and she has long eyelashes.

Meal time is so messy.  She insists on doing it herself and that means there is always food everywhere. It is a two spoon job, one spoon for her and one for me and we trade spoons over and over.

Her little wave is so cute and I still haven't been able to get a picture or video of it.  She says, "Hi, Dada," and that is always directed right at Dad so even if she is not even eight months old, I am convinced that she is talking.

K is officially wearing 12-18 months now.  She wears this size for the length; her waist is tiny and the clothes are baggy.

I love to look at pictures of the other three kids around the same age, so here they are:

T - December 1997

C - March 2005

R - October 2006

K - today, April 30, 2012

Look at that wispy hair and that sweet smile.  She melts my heart.

I love this age.

Thirty-two Weeks

I missed last week because our house was still full of sickness.  I hope that we can all stay healthy now!

K refused solids the entire week she was sick, but she is eating again.  Her favorite foods are sweet potatoes, apples, pears, and carrots.

She is sitting on her own really well now.

K has also started waving and saying "bye"; it is so cute.  I can't seem to capture it on camera though.

K really wants to crawl!  She is reaching for things and trying to move around more.

She pulls everything out of my hands and loves to rip up napkins or paper.  She also loves to stand (with help of course).

Sweet Little Bird

Last week, C and R found this little bird in our yard.  It appeared to be injured and unable to fly.  C and R talked to the bird (for over an hour) and put food near it.  We had to leave the house for piano lessons and when we returned, the bird was gone.  I assume the bird became the prey of another animal, but at least it received a little love that day.

K - Thirty Weeks and Easter

Sadly, K caught the nasty virus that invaded our house.  She has been sick since Saturday with a fever and congestion.  Last night, she was so miserable that she would sleep for fifteen minutes and then scream for an hour - it was a long night and I am exhausted.  I brought her in to see the pediatrician today and fortunately there was nothing visibly wrong, so it is just a nasty virus.  I hope that she has a better night tonight.

On a good note, K got her second bottom front tooth last week!

We were supposed to host Easter brunch, but because of all the illness we have had, we cancelled.  I ended up getting sick too, so it was the right decision.  I felt bad that we had to cancel, but I can't imagine anyone wanted to come to our house!

Here are a few pictures from our weekend:

She loves tags!
R got her first sewing kit.  She is working on an elephant.

C got a cool pyramid to excavate.  He loves things like this.

T slept late and I didn't get any pictures of him with his basket.  By the time he woke up, I was feeling pretty crummy.

Our Easter was very low key, but at least we were all together and only battling a virus.
