Teeth

My precious little princess bumped her front teeth on a table a week ago. There was a lot of blood but her teeth seemed fine. Last night, however, I was brushing her teeth and noticed the teeth that were bumped had turned gray. I will call the dentist on Monday but I am wondering if anyone has had this experience? Will the dentist pull her teeth? She just turned three. She'll be toothless for years!

I've heard of this happening before and the dentist wanting to observe for a while before pulling. Apparently, teeth can be "bruised", heal, and return back to normal white. Definitely go to the dentist, but I don't think it's a definite "pull them" situation. :)

I think you are doing the best thing to call the dentist on Monday.

I do not think they will pull her teeth. Not at her age. They serve as the first step in the digestive processs, and are also retaining the spaces needed for the permenent teeth that are in the process of formation beneath the gingiva.

They'll probably want to take an x-ray.

Please let us know what the dentist says. I'm very curious. She'll have her primary teeth a long time so I wonder what they will recommend. I'm thinking it will be along the lines fo what Sherry said.

So sorry she hurt herself! She's such a cutie!

Thank you for your comments. We went to the dentist today and R has an infection in her gums so she is on amoxicillin. If the infection does not go away, then the tooth will have to be extracted to prevent damage to the permanent tooth. I am really hopeful that the tooth can be saved but the dentist did say it is really early to have an infection and she didn't seem as hopeful. We shall see.
