When I was a kid I had a dog...but never that close...she wasn't allowed upstairs. Now we just have a cat, but we're content...dogs are too much like a child! WORK!
Such of a special bond. The dogs that we had growing up were always like members of the family. When they passed, I think I cried as much for the dogs as I did for human family members. I hope, someday, to give my kids these memories that I so cherish.
