If you want to do more with the Native American side of it, there's also "The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush" and "The Girl who Loved Wild Horses." I know both of those are traditionally used here when we get to Texas history. There's also a book called "Hector the Bat," which is about the bats that live under the Congress Avenue bridge in Austin, and it has a sequel called "Hector Saves the Moon."
And, there's a cute book called Tumbleweed Stew, that's not specifically Texas, but it's a fun book. It's a variation on Stone Soup.
I'm going to subscribe to comments to see what other suggestions you get.

Sorry - no good ideas here, but I like your approach in reading some fiction and non-fiction books on each State. I bet you will do some fun stuff with Lone Star State.

I wish I had ideas for you, but I will be coming here all the time when we start our 50 States project for book ideas!

I still can't believe you find so many cool books for all of the states y'all have done!

Have fun in Texas:-).

"Bubba the Cowboy Prince" is cute. It's a Cinderella twisted tale.
