Fancy Nancy Feeds the Birds

The Fancy Nancy books by Jane O'Connor are very popular in my house.  R thinks Fancy Nancy is just wonderful (I should probably use a fancier word than wonderful, maybe extraordinary or fabulous).  She recently spotted Fancy Nancy Explorer Extraordinaire! at the library, so it had to come home with us.  In this book, Fancy Nancy and her friend, Bree, explore the great outdoors and learn about flowers, trees, birds, and butterflies.  One of the pages has a recipe for cookie-cutter bird feeders, and we happened to have a few slices of stale bread, so we got to work preparing a special treat for our backyard friends.

First, C and R used flower, butterfly, star, and shamrock shaped cookie cutters to cut shapes out of the stale bread.

Next, they used a straw to make a hole in the middle of each shape and tied a piece of yarn through each shape.

Finally, we hung the shapes on the tree.  We hope to see some birds enjoying their special treat soon!

That's one of the few fancy Nancy books we have. I love her rules for exploring

We didn't read this book, it sounds like the one Anna would enjoy. She constantly rejects the ones where the characters (including Nancy) "do the wrong things", but she liked some of other Fancy Nancy books. Her recent favorite was Pajama Party. Your tree looks gorgeous - I hope you will see a lot of winged visitors gobbling up your treats.

Cute idea. LOL about C and his sill bands, Abby's into those too!

Very, very cute! We just took out that same Fancy Nancy book from the library -- we must be on the same wavelength. :-)

Very cute! I hope you see a lot of birds. At our house, the squirrels always get to the food first, no matter what we make.
