Crazy for Caterpillars

Oh, how they have grown! We are anxiously awaiting the formation of the chrysalides. That should happen any day now. Those greenish balls in the container are "frass" or caterpillar waste. There is much more of it than I expected.

C looks at everything through rainbow colored glasses. Funny, I remember my older son, T, doing that when he was C's age too.

R, on the other hand, is content to make a few quick marks.

We are so sad, our little caterpillar died. Not sure why. He went into his J shape and just died. I do have to say that D (3yrs) hasn't even noticed yet and it was 2 days ago. We hope to find another one on the milkweed in our yard. Good Luck

How great! I remember buying little baby pre-frogs that were supposed to grow into frogs. They never did! I'll have to try a catepillar kit for the younger boys. Maybe we'll have better luck!

The chicory is blooming in Ky now. My husband loves looking for their. . . fluffy cottony pre-butterfly homes.

It looks like such fun! We tried raising pre-frogs to frogs, but they died.

My husband loves looking in the fields on the farm for the pre-butterfuly fluffy, cottony cocoons.

I bet my younger guys would love a caterpillar kit!

How fun! Not far from us there is a place where Monarch butterfly come from Mexico for winter. It's amazing - in January there are thousands of big monarch butterflies everywhere. I am saving my butterfly theme until then, because I so want to take Anna to this field trip. And maybe then we will try to grow our own butterfly :)
PS - Anna mostly colors like R does. No interest yet.
