Three Little Pigs and Tangram Puzzles

C is having a lot of fun with the book, Three Pigs, One Wolf, and Seven Magic Shapes by Grace Maccarone.  The book is a cute variation of the story of the three little pigs.  In this story, three pigs are each given seven magic shapes and told to use them wisely.  There is, of course, a wolf in the story and two of the pigs meet an unfortunate demise when they do not use their shapes to their advantage.  The third pig used the shapes wisely and lives a happy life.  I hate to spoil the ending because it is very clever, so you will have to find the book to find out exactly what happens.

The fun thing about this book is that each page features a different tangram puzzle to be made out of the seven magic shapes.  C loved this!  At the back of the book, there is a square with the seven shapes that can be cut out or traced onto paper, but we happen to own some magnetic tangram shapes so C used those on a magnet board to create the different puzzles.

I would love to find more books that use tangram shapes to tell a story because C had a great time with this.

Thank you to Almost Unschoolers for writing about this book!

What a neat book!

I loved this book too, Anna was a bit more tentative because of unfortunate fate of the first two pigs. You might try Grandfather Tang Story - it's a bit more intense, so Anna didn't like it much.
